Trezo attends Greater KC Chamber
Showcase Expo at Union Station

Trezo mare è molto buono!
by Food lover, Chef and Kansas City Food Blogger, Carlton Logan

My sister and I went to Trezo Mare for lunch/brunch after church today.

The place itself is very impressive. Nice booths. Very open feel. We walked by the kitchen going to our table.
My sister order the fusilli shrimp Diablo with a vodka cream sauce. It was very good, not too spicy.

I was in the mood for breakfast today so I order the Basic Breakfast. There’s a choice between Italian sausage, bacon, Canadian bacon…or praline bacon. Part of me was screaming SALCICCIA! But the other part of me chose the regular bacon. Then, I asked our server Alisa if my breakfast came with toast or a biscuit. She said she could bring toast. Then the other side of me that was screaming SALCICCIA came back and ordered, a la carte, the cheddar biscuit with gravy. Not that crazy about biscuits and gravy. But….what is in the gravy? SALCICCIA!
Then, Alisa, was kind enough to bring a slice of the praline bacon, AKA pig candy, for us to try. It was sweet but not cloyingly. And it was sprinkled with nuts. She also let us try the cinnamon rolls.
I enjoyed my breakfast. Crisp bacon, breakfast potatoes…it also came with a little of the Trezo Mare hot sauce. Not too hot with a smoky flavor.

For dessert, my sister had the flourless chocolate cake. Chocolate lovers, this is your new go to dessert. Light, creamy but rich. Almost a cross between a mousse and cheesecake.
I chose the creme brulee. I thought it was just because I like creme brulee but I think it might have been subliminally induced by the recent posts about it. This one’s good. The custard was creamy. And the caramel was perfectly crisp. There was a little fruit chutney on top.

Erin, event coordinator, was kind enough to show us around. They have an excellent wine room that would be perfect for events. There’s also the lounge area. It has a section that can be roped off for a smaller group gathering. And then, there’s the patio. It was too hot today but they have a great space for outdoor dining or, again, a special event.

Another plus is the gluten free options. Erin told me the owner, Mike Lee, worked with Chef Padilla on a menu with gluten free options. Several members of Mike’s family eat gluten free.

A Letter to the Chef, February 14, 2017

To Mr. Robert Padilla, Executive Chef:Dear Robert,
Today my wife, Rita and I had the pleasure of dining at your restaurant in BriarCliff Village for our Valentines celebration. I just wanted to compliment you Sir on a more than pleasant atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful service we received. The steaks were tender, tasty, premium quality and the presentation was elegant. My wife enjoyed her Steak and Lobster very much as welll. Our Servers name was Austin and my wife and I took great pleasure from his supportive and professional manner – he was a large part of why we enjoyed our visit. The coffee was super good as was the flowerless chocolate desert. I felt it necessary that you should be apprised of such a successful delicious meal and the cozy dining atmosphere on this special day. My gratitude and thanks, Jerry & Rita

I have not found another restaurant in KC that can even come close to offering fresh delicious fish and seafood! I tried dishes at Trezo Mare that I’ve never had anywhere else and everything tasted unbelievably delicious. The first and only place I would take someone who is Leary of trying seafood for the first time. I could guarantee that Trezo Mare would not disappoint!! – Robyn A

This is my new favorite restaurant, not only in the Northland, but in all of KC. The food is consistently unique and delicious and the changing dessert menu is fantastic. One of the best anywhere. -Annmrab

I loved every single thing about this restaurant. The owner is extremely personable and spends time getting to know his patrons. We had a table near the fireplace at the bar, and the intimate setting was wonderful. The P.E.I. mussels were exquisite. I have been to P.E.I. and these were the best by far. The salmon/short ribs special was perfectly prepared. 5 stars for sure. -Google User

I’m always satisfied every time I dine at Trezo Mare, whether it’s for lunch, dinner, or a special occasion. I’ve never been disappointed with a menu item, or wine selection. I love that they use local ingredients! Their seasonal offerings are impeccable. The atmosphere is cozy, and the service upscale. And the price is reasonable, not as expensive as you think it would be judging from the atmosphere, service, and quality of the food. -Em. Doolan

Great location in Briarcliff. Love the bar area with the big fireplace. Food is always good. Just had a great spinach salad. The pear vinegarette was light and delightful. The tilapia was cooked to perfection and laid over a long grain rice that was very moist. The lemon caper butter sauce was just enough flavor and wasn’t heavy to weigh the dish down. -Brenda D

An undiscovered jewel in the Northland! Last Friday night we enjoyed the jet fresh seafood selection and the awesome Shrimp Pasta Diablo with fresh home made pasta; a little spicy, but that’s the way Kathy likes it. -Sparky

You HAVE to make the short drive from downtown to experience this outstanding restaurant. There have been many changes since opening about 4 years ago, but food continues to impress. Sunday brunch is great and well-priced. Their ahi tuna appetizers are among the best I’ve had and their crabcakes never disappoint. Great bar scene for happy hour or a place to continue the fun after dinner. – MissyJo

‘Obviously a hidden gem’ We made our first visit to Trezo Mare this past weekend. It is tucked away in the Briarcliff Village just north of the downtown airport in KCMO. We were a little early for the bulk of the dinner crowd so the dining room was not full. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were greeted warmly and treated very well. Everything brought to our table was delicious! – Trip Advisor User

Celebrated our 26th anniversary @ Trezo Mare. Couldn’t have been a better choice for us. We were ushered to the Chef’s Counter by Mike Lee, co-owner. Chef Cary then joined us to find out about our food preferences and make recommendations about menu selections for our special evening. Caprese salad, crab cakes, ahi tuna and wood fired salmon, panna cotta and flourless chocolate cake were our choices. Mark Taylor, Wine Director, then came to meet with us regarding wines to pair with each course. What a knowledgeable sommelier! He asked questions about our very opposing taste in wines, listened to our responses and recommended wonderful selections to compliment Chef Cary’s menu with wines that both of us felt paired wonderfully with our food choices. Throughout our dinner Mike, Cary and Mark as well as other servers encouraged our questions and shared their obvious enjoyment of being a part of the Trezo Mare team. Needless to say, we had a wonderful dining experience for our anniversary from the moment we entered the foyer. We will be back again and again for anniversaries, birthdays, “date night” and just because! -Linda B.

Thanks to the team for making our celebration so special. After a bit of shopping, we dropped into Trezo Mare for lunch.  The restaurant has a spacious feel to it, and is furnished in a style where fun meets sophistication.  It is the perfect spot for date night or girls night out.  I ordered the steak.  It was tender, juicy, perfectly cooked and drizzled with a slightly sweet, yet tangy sauce.  It was served with mashed potatoes and green beans.  Both were perfect.  My companions were both very pleased with their entrees as well.  We’ve been to Trezo Mare several times, and the service is always quick and professional.  If there is ever a mistake, they are quick to remedy it.  Each dish is prepared with a lot of thought, and can cater to palates craving unique flavors or those just wanting some classic comfort food!  Trezo Mare has never failed to please. -Kenna B

My quest for fantastic seafood in middle America took me to Trezo Mare and I was happily not disappointed.  I found the menu to be well thought out and on par with those found in larger metropolitan areas.  The flavors were complex and delicious, and I would give them 4 stars, for sure. -Kelsey K.

What an adorable place to have a girls day lunch…we were visiting our friends this past weekend so my girlfriend and I took Monday as a girls day out.  Went here for lunch and the place is great.  We got there early so we had a great little table right in front of the fireplace, which was lit up for us since it was cold outside.  Our waiter was extremely nice and attentive, the decor is great and the food wonderful.  Definitely a do over on my next visit. -Arlene C.

My wife and I had reservations there for our anniversary and the entire staff could not have made the occasion more enjoyable. Fresh flowers awaited us at the table; the scallops were the best I have ever had. My wife had the Chef’s Fresh Seafood Special and could not stop commenting on how wonderful it was. The Manager suggested a bottle of wine for us and it was remarkable. -Leif

WOW! Our first visit was because we were celebrating a special occasion with family staying at an airport hotel. It was a 45 minute drive…and we would do it again in a heartbeat. It was THAT good! The bread basket was amazing (made on the premises). Note, they even have gluten-free rolls and pasta. We started the meal with a spinach salad (delicious) and calamari appetizer (very tender). For entrees, our party selected wood-fired steak and fish (trout, tuna, and salmon). All were delicious! Dessert was flourless chocolate cake, lime cream atop a coconut macaroon, and tiramisu. Again, all were delicious! We are excited to have discovered Trezo Mare and look forward to returning again SOON! -Trip Advisor
